Miyagikyo Single Malt

Miyagikyo Single Malt is a no age statement expression from Nikka's Miyagikyo distillery, situated in a forested river valley near Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture and operated by Asahi. This bottling was released for the European market at 45%, drawing on Ex-Bourbon maturation in the house style.

Miyagikyo is defined by its tall, gracefully shaped stills and indirect steam heating, which give the new make a lighter, more floral and fruity character than coal-fired Yoichi to the north. Ex-Bourbon casks reinforce the natural direction of the spirit, adding vanilla and a soft cereal note to the citric freshness and fresh fruit that are the distillery's signature. The hay-like dryness on the finish is typical of the Miyagikyo style and keeps the expression bright and easy to return to.
