Miyagikyo Single Malt

Miyagikyo Single Malt is a no age statement expression from Nikka's Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture, set in a verdant river valley near Sendai and owned by Asahi. This 500ml bottling was produced for the European market at 43%, matured in the house's characteristic Ex-Bourbon casks.

The Miyagikyo distillery is distinguished within Nikka's portfolio by its elegant, fruity character: tall pot stills and indirect steam heating encourage a lighter, more floral new make than coal-fired Yoichi. Bourbon maturation adds vanilla and a gentle cereal warmth to the natural citrus and orchard-fruit base, with honey and a slightly fragrant quality rounding the palate. The hay-like note on the finish is a familiar signature of the distillery, lending a pleasant dryness that lifts the sweetness and makes this a balanced everyday expression.
