Miyagikyo Malty and Soft is a no age statement single malt from Nikka's Miyagi Prefecture distillery, released in 2015 for the Japanese domestic market in 500ml format at cask strength, pairing with the Fruity and Rich release from the same year. Where the Fruity and Rich variant foregrounds citric brightness and fresh fruit, this expression leans into the malty, cereal side of the distillery's character.

Malt extract and cooked fruit sit at the centre, supported by hay-like and leafy notes and a fragrant lift, with Ex-Bourbon casks providing the vanilla and soft wood frame. At 55%, the cask strength delivery intensifies the malt character and gives a satisfying weight to the texture. It is a quietly revealing exploration of what Miyagikyo's softer, grain-facing register looks like when it is not reduced.
