Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast is a no age statement single malt from Nikka's Miyagi Prefecture distillery, released in 2022 for the European market. The expression is distinguished by its use of a specially selected aromatic yeast during fermentation, an approach that targets the ester-production stage of the process to amplify floral and fruit character before the spirit even reaches the still.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks in the Miyagikyo tradition, the bourbon wood's vanilla and soft spice support rather than dominate the yeast-driven fruit and floral notes, allowing the fermentation character to remain central to the experience.
