Chalong Bay Double Barrel is a cane juice rum from the Chalong Bay distillery in Thailand, distilled on a pot still from fresh pressed sugarcane rather than molasses. As a pure cane juice spirit it sits in the agricole family without claiming the protected name, and this expression takes the distillery's grassy base through a double maturation in French oak and ex Armagnac casks, bottled unsweetened at 47%.

The nose carries vanilla, sugarcane, cinnamon and citrus, while the cask work shows on the palate in wood spice, pepper and a clear Armagnac note, finishing peppery, minty and a touch sour. The result is drier and more spice forward than a sweet molasses rum, the fresh cane character meeting toasted oak and brandy cask influence with floral and exotic fruit touches. There is only a whisper of sweetness, with coconut and ripe fruit emerging underneath the wood. A distinctive, slightly dry agricole style rum for drinkers who enjoy clear cask influence over their cane.
