Description

Ron Colon Salvadoreño RumRye is an unusual hybrid, an El Salvador column still rum matured in rye and whisky casks so that the two spirits meet in the glass. Bottled at 50%, it is aimed at whiskey curious drinkers, keeping familiar oak and spice while layering rum sweetness on top.

The nose carries banana, honey, pineapple and grapes, and the palate is sweet and fruity with honey, spice and a virgin oak influence, before a sweet, citrussy, minty finish. The rye lends a recognisable spicy backbone, though the rum character keeps the sweetness up, and the overall effect sits somewhere between a Panama style rum and a spicier whiskey. It reads as interesting and a little unconventional rather than a classic rum, and it shines in cocktails where its rye edge and rum sweetness can play off each other.
