Ron Colon Coffee Infused Rum

Ron Colon Coffee Infused Rum is a column distilled molasses rum from El Salvador, infused with coffee and bottled at 40.5%. It is the lighter sibling to the brand's high proof coffee release, and it leads firmly with coffee flavour, so it belongs in the flavoured category rather than among straight aged rums.

The nose is all mocha, coffee, spice and a spirity edge, the palate follows with coffee, mocha and a dry spiciness, and the finish stays dry with coffee, spice and a smoky, ashen note. Drinkers find strong coffee, ash and cocoa with some sweetness, but a fairly thin base rum underneath that does not add much beyond the coffee. That makes it more of a coffee cocktail component or mixer than a sipper, where the bold coffee can drive an espresso style long drink. Anyone after the fuller high proof version's intensity will find this the softer, more mixable option.
