Legendario Elixir de

Legendario Elixir de Cuba is a Cuban spirit made in the Spanish style from molasses, but in practice it is closer to a rum liqueur than to a classic dry rum, sweetened and bottled at a low 34% that sits well below conventional rum strength. It should be approached as the dessert drink it is.

The profile is intense and confected, honey, raisin and caramel with macerated grape and dried fruit, all carried on a thick, syrupy, almost oily mouthfeel that finishes long and sweet. Judged honestly it offers little of the structure or dryness rum enthusiasts look for, and is better thought of alongside a fortified dessert wine or a sweet cream liqueur. For those who enjoy that register it is rich and comforting, lovely poured over ice cream or sipped slowly after a meal, and even serviceable in a Cuba Libre for a sweeter take.
