Description
A 22 year old Glendullan, a distillery bottling, from 1972, at 62.6%. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, founded in 1897 in Dufftown, the last of the town's seven distilleries. Most of its make has always gone to blends, above all Diageo's Old Parr. A second distillery was built alongside the original in 1972, the two running together until the old plant closed in 1985.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt, for the green, grassy make Glendullan is known for. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a soft honey over the orchard fruit. In the oxidative, evaporative years the spirit concentrates to tropical fruit, honey and a waxy depth. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit. Maturation runs slow and even in the warehouses at Dufftown. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At a natural 62.6% it is full and creamy. A fresh orchard fruit and a malty sweetness, lifted by a soft oak. The body is light and fresh, the fruit lifted by a soft oak. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is the lightly fruity malt of Dufftown.
