Description
This official GlenAllachie, a 14 year old, from 2006, cask 678, at 60.8%, a festival bottling. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt from the hills above Aberlour, below Ben Rinnes. It was built by Mackinlay McPherson, the firm that supplied whisky to Shackleton's 1907 expedition. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit.
The spirit was drawn from a thick, full bodied wash, for the rich, sherried make GlenAllachie is known for. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years.
Bottled at a cask strength 60.8%, it is deep and concentrated. Fig, walnut and a bittersweet chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, dark sugar and a warm spice. The finish is rounded, dark and spiced. This is a dark, fruity Speyside single malt.
