A 5 year old GlenAllachie from the distillery, at 50%. A smoky, sherried malt of fig, treacle and a warm cinnamon. Often matured in sherry casks, the smoke laid over dried fruit. A rich, smoky Speyside single malt of dark sugars and sweet peat. This is from Meikle Toir, the big pursuit, its peated Speyside range. This is the peated malt of Aberlour.

Description

This official GlenAllachie, a 5 year old, at 50%. GlenAllachie is the Speyside home of Billy Walker, this from his peated Meikle Toir campaign. It was mothballed in 1985 and reopened in 1989, a modern distillery by Speyside standards.

Drawn from a thick, peated, full bodied wash, building a peated malt of dark fruit and sweet smoke. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending a creamy vanilla. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit rich, smoky and full. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years. Long ageing turns the fresh notes towards date, prune and a dark, bittersweet chocolate. Maturation runs slow and even in the on site dunnage warehouses at Aberlour. The casks are picked closely, the wood matched to the rich GlenAllachie make. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time.

Bottled at a cask strength 50%, it is deep and concentrated. A smoky, sherried sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is full and smoky, the spirit carrying the peat. It finishes long, smoky and full. This is a smoky, fruity Speyside single malt.
