Glenallachie 5 Years Old 2015 Cask #216 (Dramtime)

A 5 year old GlenAllachie from Dramtime, distilled in 2015, from cask 216, at 64%, one of 33 bottles. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, founded in 1967 below Ben Rinnes near Aberlour. It was designed almost entirely gravity fed, an efficient plant for its time. Its water is the Lochnagar Burn, drawn down from the slopes of Ben Rinnes. It matures its spirit in sixteen dunnage warehouses on the distillery site at Aberlour.

It was worked unhurried through the stillhouse, for a full make built to take active wood. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the full character to the fore. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin and toasted sugars over the full, fruity spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt.

At a hearty 64% it carries real weight. A deep, dark sweetness, with a warm oak spice. Fig, honey and a dark chocolate fill the middle. It finishes long, full and fruity. This is a rich, sherried Speyside single malt.
