Glenallachie Single Cask 10 Years Old 2015

This official GlenAllachie, a 10 year old, from 2015, cask 6523, at 61.8%, 754 bottles in all. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, long a blending malt and now a sherry led name in its own right. It was built for the 1960s blend boom, its make long destined for the blender's vat. Its water is the Lochnagar Burn, drawn down from the slopes of Ben Rinnes.

It was distilled to a full, generous cut, shaping a rich Speyside body with real weight. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak lending vanilla and a light honey. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the rich spirit growing rounder and darker. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. Maturation runs slow and even in the on site dunnage warehouses at Aberlour.

At its natural 61.8% it is rich and chewy. Baked apple, honey and a dark chocolate, over a gentle, creamy oak. Fig, honey and a dark chocolate fill the middle. The close is rich and dark, fruit over a warm spice. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real richness.
