A 10 year old GlenAllachie, a distillery bottling, from 2010, cask 4559, at 62.4%, 272 bottles in all. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt from the hills above Aberlour, below Ben Rinnes. It was designed almost entirely gravity fed, an efficient plant for its time. It was founded in 1967, designed by the architect William Delme Evans, his fourth distillery after Jura and Tullibardine.

It was run slowly off the spirit still, shaping a rich Speyside body with real weight. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin and a soft coconut under the malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend riper orchard fruit and a chocolate depth. The casks are picked closely, the wood matched to the rich GlenAllachie make. Maturation runs slow and even in the on site dunnage warehouses at Aberlour. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt.

At a hearty 62.4% it carries real weight. Raisin, chocolate and a warm spice, with a warm oak spice. A dark chocolate and a soft oak give it weight. The finish is long, rich and spiced. This is a rich Speyside malt of dried fruit and chocolate.
