Glen Keith 24 Years Old 1993 The Clans Label (Sansibar)

The bottler Sansibar bottled this Glen Keith, a 24 year old, distilled in 1993, bottled at 52.2%, one of 142 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt made behind Strathisla, mostly for the Chivas blends. Single malt Glen Keith is rare, most of it coming from independent bottlers.

The spirit was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Keith style, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend a drying structure while oxidation builds a richer, tropical fruit. Much of the Glen Keith make went to the blenders, a little kept as single malt. Balloch Hill water and the tall stills give the light Glen Keith make. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It was Seagram's experimental plant, and still houses the Chivas Brothers lab.

At a hearty 52.2% it carries real weight. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a Speyside single malt of real lightness.
