Description
A 20 year old Glen Keith from the bottler La Maison du Whisky, distilled in 1992, from cask 120560, bottled at 60.1%, one of 184 bottles. Glen Keith, founded in 1957, was Seagram's innovation plant on Speyside. Its make went largely into the Chivas Regal, Passport and 100 Pipers blends.
Drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, building a light, fruity character of green apple and pear. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. The light, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit.
Bottled at a cask strength 60.1%, it is rich. Pear, melon and a light honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a clean malt sit behind the cask. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Glen Keith, Seagram's experimental Speyside malt.
