Description
The Campbeltown house Cadenhead bottled this Dufftown, a 10 year old, bottled at 46%. Dufftown is a Speyside malt built for the blender's art and now bottled as a single malt in its own right. Its water is drawn from Jock's Well, an artesian spring in the Conval Hills.
It was worked through the stills with a creamed yeast for a malty, fruity make, for a clean, malty Speyside spirit. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the malty, fruity spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey. Water from Jock's Well and a long ferment give the clean Dufftown make. The Singleton style leans on a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak. Its single malt has been sold as The Singleton of Dufftown since 2006, mainly in the UK and Europe. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple and malt deepening to honey.
At 46% it is malty, nutty and smooth. A malty, nutty sweetness, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. The texture is smooth and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is smooth, nutty and gently spiced. This is the Singleton of Dufftown in single malt form.
