Description
A Dufftown of an 11 year old chosen by the bottler An and G Selection, distilled in 2008, bottled at 48%, one of 326 bottles. Dufftown is a Speyside malt built for the blender's art and now bottled as a single malt in its own right. It runs a full lauter mash tun, twelve washbacks and six stills, and works around the clock.
Mashed in the full lauter tun and fermented long for a clean, grassy make, for a soft, nutty, fruit driven make. Finished in a Rum cask, the wood building over the malty, fruity spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Dufftown warehouses. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It is one of Diageo's largest malt distilleries, making around 5.8 million litres a year.
At a hearty 48% it carries real weight. Green apple, malt and a soft vanilla, with a soft brown sugar and a tropical fruit from the cask. The mouthfeel is smooth, the fruit carried on a malty body. The finish is smooth, nutty and gently spiced. This is the Singleton of Dufftown in single malt form.
