Description
This official Singleton of Dufftown, an 18 year old, at 40%. Dufftown is a Speyside single malt distilled in the town of Dufftown, the heart of Scotland's malt whisky country. It is one of Diageo's largest malt distilleries, making around 5.8 million litres a year.
The spirit was made on Conval Hills water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building the smooth Dufftown style. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the nutty, malty character to the fore. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip. Water from Jock's Well and a long ferment give the clean Dufftown make. The town of Dufftown holds the highest concentration of distilleries in Scotland. It became the heart of the Bell's blend after Arthur Bell and Sons bought it in 1933. The clean, grassy spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and honey to the fore.
Reduced to 40%, it is mellow. A smooth, nutty Speyside fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run apple, malt and a soft honey. The finish is smooth, nutty and gently spiced. This is a smooth, malty Speyside malt from the Conval Hills.
