Description
Dufftown from the distillery, a 40 year old, at 45.3%. Dufftown is a smooth, approachable Speyside malt from the town with the most distilleries in Scotland. Its single malt has been sold as The Singleton of Dufftown since 2006, mainly in the UK and Europe.
Distilled from unpeated Speyside malt in the distillery's six stills, giving the smooth, approachable Speyside spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the smooth spirit. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the malt to a honeyed, nutty delicacy of sotolon and old oak. The slow distillation gives a smooth spirit that takes well to the cask. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. In recent years the ferment was lengthened and the wort run clear for a grassier make. It is one of Diageo's largest malt distilleries, making around 5.8 million litres a year.
At 45.3% it is malty, nutty and smooth. Baked apple, nut and a creamy malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is smooth, the fruit carried on a malty body. The finish runs gentle, nutty and warming. This is a smooth, malty Speyside malt from the Conval Hills.
