This Deanston was bottled by Meadowside Blending, a 10 year old, at 55.1%. An easy, honeyed fruit over a soft, waxy body, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. Its old weaving shed is now a cool stone warehouse for the casks. It is the only distillery in Scotland to make all its own power from the river. This is Deanston, the mill turned distillery on the Teith.

Description

From Meadowside Blending, a 10 year old Deanston, distilled in 2009, from cask 16902, bottled at 55.1%, one of 678 bottles. Deanston is a bright, fruity Highland single malt distilled in a Victorian mill at Doune. It draws water from the River Teith, which also drives the turbine that powers the distillery.

Distilled slowly for a clean, fruity spirit, for a clean, fruity spirit with a waxy edge. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the green, waxy fruit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and waxier. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards honey, dried fruit and a soft spice. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its honey and wax. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. The site was the Adelphi cotton mill, built in 1785 by Sir Richard Arkwright and turned to whisky in 1965.

At cask strength 55.1% it is full bodied. Baked apple, honey and a creamy malt, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. It is fruity and waxy, the malty spirit shining through. A honeyed finish ends on apple and a fiery oak spice. This is Deanston's waxy, fruity Highland style.
