Description
This official Deanston, a 15 year old, from 2002, at 55.2%, 1308 bottles in all. Deanston is a Highland single malt distilled in a converted cotton mill on the River Teith near Doune. Deanston is the only distillery in Scotland to generate all its own power from the river.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated Scottish barley in bulbous copper stills, giving the soft, malty Highland spirit. Finished in a Marsala cask, the wood building over the green, waxy fruit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth over the wax. Unchillfiltered and at natural colour, it keeps the full waxy body in the glass. River Teith water and a long ferment give the fruity, estery Deanston make. It draws water from the River Teith, which also drives the turbine that powers the distillery.
At a natural 55.2% it is full and waxy. Green apple, honey and a waxy malt, with a raisined, herbal sweetness from the cask. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft honey. A long, honeyed finish carries a green apple and a ginger spice. This is Deanston, the mill turned distillery on the Teith.
