Description
From the bottler Moon-Import, a 24 year old Dailuaine, distilled in 1975, bottled at 45%, one of 594 bottles. Dailuaine, founded in 1852, gave Scotch its first pagoda roofed kiln. Its rich, robust malt has long been a backbone of the Johnnie Walker blends.
Distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, giving the heavy, meaty spirit at its heart. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a soft honey behind the rich malt. Oxidative, evaporative ageing turns the malt deep and rich, ethereal esters and a faint sotolon (maple). Maturation in the cool north east keeps the rich spirit balanced over the years. It passed to DCL and Scottish Malt Distillers in the 1920s and was later modernised. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit over a rich malt.
At 45% it is gentle, sweet and fruity. Dried fruit, malt and a rich, savoury depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked fruit and a warm spice lift it. It finishes robust, malty and warm. This is the rich, full bodied Speyside malt of Dailuaine.
