Description
A Dailuaine of a 9 year old chosen by the bottler Global Whisky Limited, distilled in 2013, from cask 324383, bottled at 56.7%. Dailuaine was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie, and was the first distillery to wear the pagoda roof. Its rich, robust malt has long been a backbone of the Johnnie Walker blends.
Distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, for the rich, full bodied make Dailuaine is known for. A Pedro Ximenez cask added raisin, date and a treacle sweetness. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a robust, meaty malt. The rich, full bodied spirit takes cask flavour well, especially sherry wood. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice. Water comes from the Bailliemullich Burn, the spirit drawn off three wash and three spirit stills.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.7%, it is rich. A robust, sherried maltiness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is robust and fruity, the full bodied spirit shining through. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is Dailuaine, a backbone of the great blends.
