Description
This is a Cambus single grain, chosen and bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company matured to 25 year old and bottled at 50.1%. Only 462 bottles were released. Founded around 1806 by John Moubray, Cambus was a Lowland grain distillery that fell silent in 1993. Cambus was once one of the largest grain distilleries in Scotland.
Distilled in continuous stills for a light, sweet grain spirit, building the gentle Cambus grain style. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla and crème brûlée. Past twenty five years the spirit turns oily and dessert sweet while staying clean. Maturation in ex-Bourbon wood suits the light, sweet grain particularly well. Alfred Barnard visited in 1885, noting six huge warehouses holding seventeen thousand casks. A fire destroyed the distillery in 1914; it was rebuilt and resumed in the late 1930s. Cambus was once one of the largest grain distilleries in Scotland.
At cask strength 50.1% it is full bodied. The ex-Bourbon gives sweet vanilla and a buttery coconut. It is clean and sweet, the grain spirit shining through. The close is soft, dessert sweet over oak. This is the deep, sweet grain of old Cambus.
