Description
An official Glasgow Distillery single malt, aged 6 year old from 2018, drawn from cask 18/1153, 18/1155, 18/1157, 18/1159 and bottled at 55%. Just 1200 bottles were filled. Founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery Company brought malt whisky back to the city. The first malt casks were filled in 2015, and the first single malt was released in 2018.
It was distilled from Scottish barley in copper stills on Loch Katrine water, giving the bright, fruity Glasgow spirit. Maturation in a fortified or wine cask lent red fruit and spice. The fruity young make takes a wide range of casks well, from sherry to wine. Its 1770 name recalls the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city. The first single malt casks were filled in 2015, the first whisky released in 2018.
At a natural 55% it is bold and full. Green apple, pear and a soft vanilla lead, and the Port cask adds plum and red berry. A vanilla and a gentle spice give it depth. A fruity, gently spiced finish lingers. This is the 1770 single malt of Glasgow.
