Description
A distillery release of 1770 Glasgow, a 6 year old release from 2018, drawn from cask 18/1204 and bottled at 59.8%. A release of 342 bottles. The Glasgow Distillery Company opened in Hillington in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow since 1902. The 1770 name recalls that original Glasgow distillery, founded in 1770 at Dundashill.
Made in copper stills for the fresh, fruity house make, for a fruity, vibrant make. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness, fast on the young spirit. Years in active oak round the young spirit and add the cask's own character. Founders Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward set out to bring single malt back to the city. The stills are named for the founders' families and for the MacDonald artist sisters. A young distillery, it leans on active wood to bring its whisky to life quickly. It was named Scottish Distillery of the Year in 2020.
At cask strength 59.8% it is muscular. Pear, vanilla and a citrus lift lead, and the Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle. The texture is young and lively, the fruit lifted by oak. It closes bright, fruity and warm. This is a fruity young single malt from Glasgow.
