Description
Speciality Drinks Ltd selected this Rosebank, aged 17 year old, from 1991, drawn from cask 1302 and bottled at 55.1%. Only 246 bottles were released. Built in 1840 at Falkirk, on the Lowland canal side, Rosebank was closed in 1993 and long mourned. The distillery was reborn in 2023, but these casks date from its legendary years.
Drawn off after a third distillation and condensed slowly in worm tubs, the make took the Rosebank style. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the Lowland character to the fore. Past a decade and a half the florals deepen into honey and soft tropical fruit. Worm tub condensers slow the copper contact, lending a fuller body to the light Lowland spirit. The 108 foot chimney remained a Falkirk landmark through the long silent decades. Its final vintages of the early 1990s are among the most sought after of all Lowland malts. The malt was matured slowly in the temperate Lowland climate before bottling.
At its natural 55.1% it is concentrated and honeyed. Green apple and a floral lift sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. A green apple and a herbal note lift it. It finishes clean, fragrant and bright. This is spirit from the lost years of Rosebank, finite for good.
