Description
Gordon & MacPhail selected this Rosebank, aged 24 year old, from 1989, drawn from cask RO/13/03 and bottled at 46%. The outturn was 471 bottles. Established in 1840 on the Forth and Clyde Canal at Falkirk, Rosebank was mothballed in 1993. Rosebank distilled again from 2023, yet this is spirit from the closed era.
It was put through three stills and worm tubs for body and finesse, to build the floral, grassy malt blenders prized. An Oloroso sherry cask wrapped the delicate spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. At this age it is deep and elegant, beeswax and tropical fruit folded into the florals. The clean, high collected spirit ages gracefully, keeping its floral lift. Laid down before 1993, this is spirit from a distillery silent for three decades. History on the site runs back to the Stark brothers in 1798, before Rankine's 1840 distillery.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and green apple and a floral lift sit alongside a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. A green apple and a herbal note lift it. It finishes clean, fragrant and bright. This is spirit from the lost years of Rosebank, finite for good.
