Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin house founded in 1895, has bottled Miltonduff as a single malt for generations. This Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength 31 Year Old is a 1990 vintage from Oloroso cask 19440, a release of 437 bottles. Miltonduff, the floral Speyside malt distilled near Pluscarden Abbey and long destined for Ballantine's.

By thirty-one years the sherry, oxidation and evaporation had taken the light, floral spirit to its limit, dried fruit and leather worn soft, the strength near 40%.

At 54.6% it shows a leathery note, chocolate, cooked and dried fruit, honey and nuts, undiluted. A 1990 Connoisseurs Choice 31.
