Description

Murray McDavid bottled this 1979 Lagavulin for The Syndicate's, a 15 year old cask strength release from ex-Bourbon, bottled in 1995, an outturn of 231 bottles. The distillery has occupied Lagavulin Bay since 1816, near the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle.

The spirit is heavily peated and distilled at a deliberate, slow pace. Matured in ex-Bourbon at full strength, fifteen years give a deep, vivid smoke.

Cask strength, 59.2%. Peat phenols and guaiacol carry the smoke, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla. An early independent Syndicate's Lagavulin.
