Description
This marked the 2017 Islay Jazz Festival for Lagavulin, matured in ex-Bourbon, an outturn of 6,000 bottles. Lagavulin, founded in 1816, is the middle voice of southern Islay's peated trio.
A famously unhurried distillation gives a heavy, peated body. Matured in ex-Bourbon at full strength, the wood gives vanilla beneath the smoke.
At its natural strength of 57.6%. Guaiacol and cresols carry the smoke, the bourbon wood adding vanilla and honey. Tasting notes take in smoke, honey, vanilla, a hay-like note, a medicinal edge and tobacco. A jazz festival edition.
