Lagavulin The Distillers Edition 16 Years Old 1998

This 1998 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2014 at sixteen years old, finished in Oloroso. Lagavulin, at Lagavulin Bay on Islay's south shore, was founded in 1816 and is one of Diageo's most prized Islay malts.

The peated spirit is distilled slowly, the still shape adding weight. After spending its first years in oak it was finished in Oloroso casks for dried-fruit depth.

Bottled at 43%. Peat phenols and guaiacol drive the maritime smoke, the Oloroso adding fig and raisin with a nutty edge. Tasting notes take in a medicinal edge, a sherried character, a kippery maritime note and a yeasty depth. An Oloroso-finished Distillers Edition.
