Description

This 1995 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2013 at eighteen years old, older than the usual sixteen, an outturn of 3,000 bottles finished in Oloroso. One of Islay's south-coast distilleries, Lagavulin was founded in 1816.

Lagavulin's heavily peated spirit is distilled slowly through its pear-shaped stills. After its first maturation it was finished in Oloroso casks, the extra years deepening both smoke and sherry.

Bottled at 43%. The maritime smoke comes from guaiacol and phenols, the Oloroso giving fig and raisin with a walnut dryness. Tasting notes take in a cooked vegetable note, a sherried character, smoke, chocolate, leather and a medicinal edge. An older Oloroso Distillers Edition.
