Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1988, a 16 year old finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry and bottled in 2004 at 43%. A PX-finished vintage of the south Islay malt, peat smoke wrapped in dark raisined fruit.

Description

This 1988 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2004 at sixteen years old, drawn from the year the standard 16 joined the Classic Malts and made Lagavulin famous. The distillery has occupied Lagavulin Bay since 1816, near the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle.

Lagavulin's peated spirit is run slowly off the stills for weight. Its second maturation came in Pedro Ximenez casks for a deep, raisiny sweetness.

Bottled at 43%. Guaiacol and phenols carry the maritime smoke, the Pedro Ximenez giving dark raisined fruit and chocolate. A PX-finished Distillers Edition.
