Description
This 1987 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2003 at sixteen years old. By this point Lagavulin's sherry-finished series was well established, the peat tempered each year by a sweet cask. Lagavulin was founded in 1816 and sits between its Kildalton neighbours on Islay.
Lagavulin's peated wash is taken slowly off pear-shaped stills. After its first maturation it was finished in Pedro Ximenez casks made from sun-dried grapes.
Bottled at 43%. Guaiacol and other phenols carry the coastal smoke, the Pedro Ximenez wrapping it in raisin and fig. Tasting notes take in a medicinal edge, smoke and tobacco. A PX-finished Distillers Edition.
