Description
This 8 Years Old was the limited edition released in 2016 to mark 200 years of Lagavulin, the bottling that introduced the younger age and proved popular enough to keep. An outturn of 20,000 bottles. Lagavulin was founded in 1816 at Lagavulin Bay, between neighbours Laphroaig and Ardbeg.
Lagavulin's heavily peated spirit is distilled slowly through its pear-shaped stills. Matured in American oak, eight years give a brighter, more direct take on the Lagavulin character than the 16.
Bottled at 48%. The phenols, guaiacol among them, drive the smoke, the oak adding vanilla. Expect smoke, vanilla, a medicinal edge, citrus, fresh fruit and a kippery maritime note. The anniversary release that started the 8.
