Description
The 8 Years Old is the younger sibling in Lagavulin's core range, first released in 2016 for the distillery's 200th anniversary and made permanent after its reception. Lagavulin, founded in 1816 at Lagavulin Bay between Laphroaig and Ardbeg, is now one of Diageo's most sought-after malts.
Lagavulin's heavily peated spirit is distilled slowly through pear-shaped stills, which builds the depth the distillery is known for. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks, the younger age leaves the smoke brighter and more forward than in the 16.
Bottled at 48%. Guaiacol and phenols drive the coastal smoke, the ex-Bourbon adding vanilla beneath. Tasting notes take in smoke, citrus, vanilla, a coal-gas mineral edge, fresh fruit and a medicinal note. A sharper, younger cut of the Lagavulin character.
