Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This single cask was bottled by Meadowside Blending, distilled in 1987, at 33 years old, for its The Grainman range. Single cask number 300332 yielded 150 bottles, released for Germany.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 52.8%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to a cereal mash note. Decades in oak have pushed the light grain into waxy, tropical territory, with mango and pineapple from slow ester development.
