Description
Released through Ardbeg's Distillery Single Cask programme using the original warehouse cask number, distinguishing it from the curated low number sequential series (cask #2, #10, #86 and similar). The 2010 vintage sits in Ardbeg's modern stable era under LVMH owned Glenmorangie, thirteen years on from the 1997 acquisition.
Filled into ex Bourbon American oak cask in 2010 and matured on Islay for ten years across the modern era. Bottled in 2020 at 57% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 57% reading after ten years represents typical natural strength for a refill bourbon Ardbeg in the maritime warehouse cycle, with measured ethanol attrition through the humid storage climate at Port Ellen.
Ten years of American oak maturation places this release in the early mid age expression of the modern Ardbeg curve. Cis and trans oak lactones build coconut and oiled wood at developing concentration, while hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) begin to add caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde deliver emerging vanilla and baking spice. The modern 50 to 55 ppm peat phenol load reads at full intensity (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) for classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke. The purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
