Ardbeg Ar4 (Elements of Islay)

Released through Speciality Drinks Ltd's Elements of Islay series, the anonymized Islay single distillery programme that uses two letter codes (Ar, Bn, Bu, Cl, Lp, Lg, Oc, Pe) to identify the source distillery without permission to use the distillery name on the label. Ar4 marks the fourth batch in the Ardbeg coded line. Speciality Drinks Ltd is the bottling arm of Sukhinder Singh's operation, sitting alongside The Whisky Exchange retail and Elixir Distillers within the broader Speciality Brands group.

Released in 2014 at 58.1% ABV for the German market, non chill filtered with no added colour. The Elements of Islay programme has run since the late 2000s as an anonymized parallel to the named distillery bottlings, allowing Speciality Drinks to release stock that cannot legally carry the distillery name on the label.

The single distillery format means the chemistry is pure Ardbeg spirit profile: cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) from American oak refill, hemicellulose breakdown furans (caramel, toasted almond), and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde (vanilla, baking spice). The modern Ardbeg 50 to 55 ppm peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry the classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke, with the Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivering concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
