Ardbeg 15 Years Old 1991 Cask #DL 3016 (Douglas Laing)

Released through the Old Malt Cask, Douglas Laing's flagship single cask range during the pre 2013 era. The Old Malt Cask brand was launched in 1998 and became one of the most prolific independent single cask lines through the 2000s before moving to Hunter Laing after the 2013 split. Cask #DL 3016 carries Douglas Laing's sequential numbering format from the bottler's archive.

Filled into refill American oak in 1991 during Allied Distillers's intermittent reopening and matured for fifteen years across the 1996 final closure and the 1997 Glenmorangie acquisition. Bottled in 2006 at 50.9% ABV for the Italian market, non chill filtered with no added colour. Italy has been a longstanding Douglas Laing market through the 1980s and 1990s when Italian specialist importers anchored the European Scotch enthusiast market.

Fifteen years of refill American oak maturation builds the modern mid age expression curve. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The 1991 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity with moderate oxidative conversion emerging. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the phenolic core.
