Ardbeg 26 Years Old 1993 (Cadenhead’s)

A senior expression from Cadenhead's 1993 Ardbeg programme, bottled at 26 years in Winter 2020 with 240 bottles drawn. The Cadenhead's Ardbeg programme as a whole reflects the bottler's foundational philosophy launched with the Authentic Collection in 1989: each release captures the individuality of a single cask, bottled unfiltered, uncoloured and at cask strength.

Filled into refill bourbon hogshead in 1993 during Allied Distillers's intermittent reopening and matured for twenty six years before bottling in Winter 2020 at 53.7% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 53.7% reading after more than two and a half decades reflects a relatively tightly sealed cask with measured ethanol attrition through the humid maritime warehouse cycle.

Twenty six years of refill bourbon maturation builds developed oak expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) reach expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The 1993 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) have undergone substantial oxidative conversion across two and a half decades, shifting the smoke register toward leather, tarred rope and seasoned bonfire ash.
