The close cask numbers suggest these butts were filled on adjacent fill days in spring 1975, sharing distillation lineage and warehouse position before diverging in wood expression over the thirty one years that followed. 453 bottles from a single butt, a substantial outturn for a Spanish sherry cask of this vintage.

Filled into oloroso sherry butt in 1975 and bottled in 2006 at 53.7% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The retained alcohol after thirty one years on Islay points to a cool warehouse position with low evaporation rates, since the maritime climate at Port Ellen drives steady ethanol attrition in most casks. The 600 litre butt format gives long extraction over slow maturation, ideal for the dense flavour loading typical of oloroso.

Oloroso sherry casks impregnate staves with melanoidins (Maillard browning compounds), polyphenols including gallic acid and ellagic acid from Spanish oak, and rancio sotolon from oxidative ageing.
