Williamson 2011 DR (A.D. Rattray) (Cask #131)

A.D. Rattray traces its name to a firm established in 1868 and today releases single casks four times a year in its Cask Collection. Distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2019, this 8 year old Williamson, from cask 131 followed., part of the Individual Cask Release series. Williamson is the code for teaspooned Laphroaig: add a spoonful of another malt to the cask and it must be sold as a blended malt rather than under the distillery name. The name nods to Bessie Williamson, Laphroaig's mid-century owner.

Held in Oloroso for eight years, the cask steeps the medicinal Islay spirit in dried fruit.

At 59.9%, undiluted, the Oloroso works in fig, date and walnut. The peat is oily and phenolic, brine underneath.
