    Whitley Neill Parma Violet Gin

    700 ml / 41.3%
    New Western

    $37

Sweet shop nostalgia in a glass: the floral hit of Parma Violets sits over a proper juniper backbone, with citrus peel and herbs keeping it honest. A British favourite from the prolific Whitley Neill range, strong enough at 41.3% to hold its own. Soft, scented and a little theatrical.

Whitley Neill has become one of the UK's best-selling premium gins by chasing unexpected flavours, and this one borrows from the confectionery aisle. Parma Violet Gin takes its cue from the violet sweets of the same name, building delicate floral notes over the brand's classic structure of juniper, coriander seed, citrus peel and herbs. At 41.3% it stays a real gin rather than a soft novelty, equally happy neat or shaken into a cocktail.

The nose is floral and fresh, violets to the fore with juniper and a lift of citrus. The palate is soft and balanced, those violet aromas carried by juniper, herbs and a touch of spice, before a long floral-sweet finish with a spicy tail. Pour it long over ice with good tonic and a twist of lemon, or fold it into an Aviation where the violet feels right at home.
