Description
Sherry casks give this edition of The Tyrconnell 10 Years Old its darker accent, a double distilled unpeated single malt from Cooley in Co. Louth bottled at 46%. The brand, revived by Cooley from the old Watt distillery of Derry, uses its wine cask finishes, Madeira, Port and Sherry, as a calling card.
After maturation in ex-bourbon barrels the whiskey is finished in Oloroso sherry wood, folding walnut, dried fruit and a hint of dark chocolate into the malt's honey, hay and fresh orchard fruit. Vanilla from the American oak still carries the finish, and at 46% the balance holds nicely between the fresh, fruity Tyrconnell core and the drier sherried overlay.
