Description
This official Tullibardine single malt matured to 14 year old from 1993 and bottled at 40%. Founded in 1949 in the southern Highlands near Gleneagles, Tullibardine is a soft, honeyed Highland malt. It was founded by the distillery architect William Delme-Evans, the first new distillery in Scotland after the war.
The spirit was run through the distillery's compact copper stills, to build a honeyed, malty character. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, soft oak that lets the honeyed fruit lead. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper, maltier fruit. Long, gentle ageing turns the fresh fruit towards honey and a soft spice. King James IV is said to have bought ale at a Blackford brewery in 1488, on the site the distillery now occupies. Its water rises in the Ochil Hills, the same source that feeds the Highland Spring brand. After lean years and a long silence, private investors brought the distillery back to life in 2003.
At 40% it is clean and honeyed. Vanilla, toffee and orchard fruit meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. It finishes soft, honeyed and clean. This is the soft Highland malt of Blackford.
