Description
Single malt Tullibardine, an independent Whisky My Wife bottling, a 12 year old from 2013 and bottled at 48%. 53 bottles in all. Tullibardine, established in 1949 beneath the Ochil Hills at Blackford, is known for its wine cask finishes. The name is Gaelic for lookout hill, after a nearby hill once used to watch for approaching strangers.
Distilled on soft Highland spring water, building the gentle Tullibardine style. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the soft character to the fore. At this age the spirit is fresh and honeyed, the malt and soft fruit bright. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the honeyed, malty core over time. Its water rises in the Ochil Hills, the same source that feeds the Highland Spring brand. After lean years and a long silence, private investors brought the distillery back to life in 2003. Picard is a Burgundy wine family, and their casks come from vineyards across France.
Undiluted at 48%, it is layered. Vanilla, toffee and orchard fruit meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. A honeyed, lightly spiced finish lingers. This is the soft Highland malt of Blackford.
