Description
This Tullibardine, an official release, a 14 year old Highland malt from 2008 and bottled at 46%. The outturn was 18278 bottles. Tullibardine was first built in 1949 beneath the Ochil Hills at Blackford, and it is known for its wine cask finishes. The name is Gaelic for lookout hill, after a nearby hill once used to watch for approaching strangers.
Distilled on soft Highland spring water, building the gentle Tullibardine style. A wine cask finish layered fruit over the malt. Around the mid teens the malt gains a fuller honey and a riper fruit. Long, gentle ageing turns the fresh fruit towards honey and a soft spice. The name comes from the Gaelic for lookout hill, after a hill once used to watch for strangers. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle entirely on the one site. Delme-Evans, a noted gravity flow designer, also drew up the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries.
At 46% it is supple and mellow. The Port cask adds plum and red berry, and oats, honey and a touch of ginger sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. It is gentle and honeyed, the soft spirit shining through. It closes soft, honeyed and warm. This is a wine finished Highland malt from Blackford.
